Arrived in Argentina now on Christmas Eve . This corner of South America has 3 countries facing each other . We had a great trip around the falls together with a bit of white water as well

Day 5: Iguazu Falls
In the UK we had decided to spend Xmas in a rather nice hotel on the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls. It paid off as we spent 3 nights in a luxurious room overlooking the Iguazu river and hazy sunsets. We had the choice to walk from the hotel to explore the local town or just swim and laze around the large hotel pool.
On Xmas Eve we took a tour around the gargantuan Iguazu Falls. We were joined by a rather large and very gay Welshman, a handsome young Finnish chap who lived in London, and a lively, pretty Argentinian tour guide. We all got on extremely well as she guided us through the maze of walkways over and under the Falls. We all opted for the boat ride which steered us straight into the cascading waters. Everyone was exhilarated and drenched through by the end. We finished the tour by drying out during the long lorry drive back through a dense jungle full beautiful and exotic birds.
We had a rather low key Christmas Eve evening listening to a local singer and chatting with a Dutch-English couple from the hotel. It turned out to be a calm and tranquil evening.
Xmas day was rather hot so we spent it in and out of the hotel and around the pool. In the early evening we walked along the river to the end of the promontory which held a monument celebrating the 3 countries we could see: Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. It was bustling with young families dancing through the fountains and overly keen teenage men parading their ostentatious four wheel drive cars through the streets bellowing unwanted music into the still air. Our hotel was our haven.
